Frequently Asked Questions

When was  the first  Mongrel Masters held?

The first Mongrel Masters was held in 1990, with a field of only five competitors, which  was won by the Tournament's Founder, Noni Scanlon.

Why do the players wear such bright coloured clothing?

Because the players are out  on the course so early and  the sun has not risen, bright coloured clothing makes them easier to see when  they hit up on each other.

Golf etiquette has been relaxed for this Tournament, is there a reason for this?

For most of the players this is their one and only game of golf for the year. To enforce silly rules such as being quiet on the green when a player lines up his putt, or to not allow sledging, or stamping on an opponents ball,  takes away from the enjoyment of the game and the uniqueness of the Tournament.

Is it true that you have to drink three warm beers during your round?

Yes that is correct. Every player must consume his first warm beer prior to commencing his round. The remaining two warm beers before  teeing up on the Fifth hole.  Failure to comply with this local rule will  lead to a penalty of five strokes.

What qualities does a Mongrel Masters Champion possess?

The combination of the early morning start,  warm beer and relaxation of etiquette equates to the winner of the Mongrel Masters not necessarily being the most talented golfer, but the person who has a tongue as sharp as a razor, a strong  constitution, a hide like an elephant  and nerves of steel.

When and where will the 2005 Mongrel Masters be held?

The 2007 Mongrel Masters is to be held on Friday 28th December at the Palm Beach Golf Club, Sydney, Australia.

Can the public play at the home of the Masters, Palm Beach Golf Club?
