Red
Colby still on top of the world
Red Colby
remains on top of the world following his second place in the 2003 Mongrel
Masters, this cemented his number one position in the 2003 Mongrel
World Rankings. It is the third time that Red has been at such
lofty heights having also been world number one in 2002 and 1999 following his
maiden victory. Colby has been runner up for the past three Mongrel
Masters and his consistency in the past four years justifies his
ranking.
2003
Mongrel Masters Champion Butch Boyer is second on the rankings, after his
victory and tied 6th placing in 2002. While Ramrod Ramsey, a former
world number 1, has slid down to 18th on the world rankings following
his disqualification in 2002.
Some of
the
milestones to be surpassed at the 2003 Mongrel Masters were:
-
Butch
Boyer equaled the most birdies in a round with 2
-
The
most number of players in a sudden death playoff with
3( Butch Boyer defeated Red Colby and Chad Todd)
-
Butch
Boyer became the oldest champion at 40years 5months 22days

Noni Scanlon remains top earner - time at the top tenuous
Following a very ordinary 8th placing, Noni Scanlon continues his fourteen year reign at the top of the all time money list despite Red Colby's record
threepeat as runner up at the 2003 Mongrel Masters.
Scanlon just needed a placing of 7th or better at the 2003
Mongrel Masters to have become the first to cross the $2 million mark,
but unfortunately he fell shy of this with $1,972,083. Short of a
disaster Scanlon should reach the mark at Mongrel Masters XV while
solid placings by Red Colby and Harold P Ouvrier could also see
them attaining such heights.
Red
Colby's consistency of top five finishes in the past five years
coinciding with the doubling of prize money for the Mongrel Masters
has taken him to second place on the Career Money Lists with
$1,852,000. He now holds the highest average for prize money earnings
per tournament of $178,555 and based upon his current form he is voted
most likely to overtake Noni Scanlon at the top of the list especially
with the prize money pool for 2004 doubling to M$4million with
M$1million going to the winner.
Juxtaposing
Red Colby's meteoric rise up the Money List is Ramrod Ramsey's slide.
Having had a mortgage on second spot for seven years from 1994 until
2001 he has now fallen to 4th having missed the 2001 tournament, coming stone dead last in 2002
and attaining disqualification and a M$100,000 fine in 2003..
