1996
Highlights:
It was a pitiful sight to behold as sixteen competitors dragged
themselves from the Sledge Ball to the golf course. Many had not slept
and had been drinking all through the night. A new dimension had been
added to the Masters with the advent of the Sledge Ball and many found
it hard to cope with. Hardened professionals such as Long Drive Cliffy
were seen heaving their guts up out on the course as the luke warm
compulsory beers took their toll. There was no doubt that the sledging
was the tamest it had ever been in the past, which the wily and
experienced Noni Scanlon took advantage of. Reveling in the
conditions, Noni led from start to finish to win by two shots from
Doormat McKeown and become the first player ever to retain the Mongrel
Masters title.
