Butch
started his career in grand style in 2002 when he walked up to Cambo
Campbell's ball and urinated on it while Cambo was lining up his club.
This action had announced to all the field that he had what it takes
to be a potential champion. This potential soon bore fruit and in only
his second Mongrel Masters, Butch became the 2003 champion.
To win in 2003
Butch sank a ten foot putt on the first play off hole to
defeat Red Colby and Chad G Todd, who all finished tied at
the completion of their rounds on +7. It was only the second
time that the Masters had been decided by a play off. The
play off hole showcased the low standard of golf displayed
throughout the tournament with all three players making
wayward tee shots, with Butch Boyer's appearing to have gone
out of bounds, causing him to play a provisional ball from
the tee. Fortunately Butch's ball was still in play and he
managed to place his second shot to the right of the green
close once again to out of bounds. Both Colby and Todd
failed to reach the green with their second shots.
Eventually each players third shot made the green with Butch
Boyer winning the putting duel and the championship.
