Wilko Cleared Of Bribery Allegations

Rumours were rife leading up to the tournament that some of the top contenders were approached by Indian bookmakers to  give weather forecasts and green readings for huge cash payments.

Mongrel Tour officials held a judicial inquiry into the allegations, following the 1999 Mongrel Masters. At these proceedings Wilko Wilkinson was  implicated by an Indian bookmaker named  Shifty Curriemuncher, who stated that he made regular cash payments into Wilko's Swiss bank account prior to last years Mongrel Masters. Curriemuncher recalled meeting Wilko at the Flaming Ring Indian restaurant in Karachi on 23 October 1999

On cross examination Wilko denied ever receiving any cash payments nor having ever met Curriemuncher. " I have never been to Karachi, nor have I ever met any Curriemuncher. The closest I have ever come to a flaming ring is after a dodgy Mexican meal" said Wilko at the inquiry.

The judicial inquiry found that Wilko had no case to answer and that the rumours were unfounded.
