Red Colby Finally Wins!

Red Colby became only the fifth player ever to don the blue tweed having won the 1999 Mongrel Masters Championship in the most bizarre circumstances ever.

Controversy reigns supreme at the Mongrel Masters and the tenth anniversary of the Tournament's inception proved to be the most scandalous ever. After having lost in a playoff  to Boxcar Willey , Colby was later declared the winner as  it was discovered after close investigation of his scorecard that  Boxcar had recorded a 47 which would have placed him seventh.

How this could ever have happened is beyond comprehension. Unofficial statements from a source within the Tournament's organisation was that they wanted to build up some tension for the tenth tournament and they saw having a playoff was a fitting ending to what had been a great decade of golf, however, it was not thought that Red Colby would choke on the playoff  hole and that Boxcar would win.  However, the official line was that no one checked Boxcar Willey's scorecards addition until after the playoff and it was then that the gross error was discovered and the wrong was righted.
