Ramrod
Makes It Fore!
Ramrod
Ramsey successfully defended his 1997 title and proceeded to rewrite
the annals of Mongrel Masters history to take out a record fourth
Championship.
Having
shot a record high winning score of 40, Ramrod also became the first
player to ever successfully defend his title for the second time.
In a
see-sawing tournament which saw five different players at some time
lead the tournament, Ramrod Ramsey showed why he has become one of the
all time greats by coming back from the brink of defeat to par the
eighth and scramble from one shot off the pace to take the lead and
hold off the charge from the usual suspects, Harold P Ouvrier, Red
Colby and some unlikely candidates, Box Car Willey and Chad G Todd.
All of
these players left the course thinking," if only I had"
after being so close yet so far from donning the Blue Tweed.
With no
Sledge Ball held for this year and conditions perfect for golf, many
pundits were scratching their heads wondering why the scores were so
high?
Of note
was the poor form of Mongrel Masters Order of Merit number one Noni
Scanlon. Who for the first time in the tournaments history missed out
on a top 5 finish and recorded his highest ever score.
Many
believe that they witnessed a changing of the guard and that Noni’s
tenancy at the top was now limited.
All
await this years Masters for the answer.
