Noni Aces at
Riverside Oaks

Just prior to
last years Mongrel Masters Ramrod Ramsey, Spuddy Cruddy
Murphy and Noni Scanlon contested their annual Foreskin
Shoot-out at the beautiful Riverside Oaks.
The Foreskin Shootout is used by the lads as a hit out
prior to the Mongrel Masters.
Supremacy at
this gives the victor a huge psychological boost for the
Masters. To the vanquished, a severe loss of income and
confidence is his reward.
Australia's greatest public golf course.
Riverside
Oaks, was chosen as the venue. This course was selected
because Spuddv knew the Director of Golf there and said
they would be able to get a cheap round. As with most
things Spuddy arranges he was wrong. His mate had the day
off so they were slugged the full fee.
After this
minor set back they revved up their carts and proceeded to
the First tee. Ramrod started the round off in his typical
steady fashion and by the end of the first nine was two
strokes ahead of Noni and five ahead of Spuddy.
It looked as
though Ramord was going to take a strangle hold on the
game when he proceeded to birdie the tenth.No one could
have anticipated what lay ahead on the eleventh.
The eleventh
at Riverside Oaks is a 144m par 3. It has an elevated tee
and to reach the kidney shaped green you need lo hit over
a lake and avoid the bunkers surrounding the green.
After watching
Ramrod hit his tee shot over the back of the green, Noni
selected an 8 iron from his bag. "It w^as as perfect a
shot that you could ever hit. The swing was smooth and the
ball hit the middle of the club so sweetly" recounts Noni.
"Time seemed
to go by slowly as the ball hit the centre of the green
and rolled its way towards the hole. I can remember Spuddy
screaming 'F%$% its going in the hole!' and then seeing
the ball disappear into the cup.
"Next thing I can remember is Spuddy and Ramrod screaming
'It 's a f#$%ing hole in one !' and jumping all over me"
recounted Noni.

The noise that was made attracted the Clerk of the Course
who drove up in his buggy to see what all the noise was
about and informed then to report to the Pro shop at the
completion of the round.
Ramrod's and
Spuddv's game collapsed into smelly clumps of cow dung.
They were never able to recover from the greatest fluke in
golfing history, Noni's hole in one.
Noni then
proceeded to dominate the final holes of the round and
become the victor for the 1993 Foreskin Shootout.
When arriving at the Pro shop Noni was informed that he
would receive a commemorative plaque for his hole in one
and would have his name placed on the Clubhouse honour
board, beneath other golfing legends who have also
recorded a hole in one, such as the great white shark Greg
Norman.
