Boardroom
Rebellion - Chad a "Joke"
A
huge rift has developed within the Board of the Mongrel Masters
following board member, Chad Todd's, pitiful sledging effort at
the 2001 tournament and for yet again not attending the Champions
dinner.
"Chad's
claim that he is the best sledger in the game is an absolute
joke" says fellow board member King Bonser.
"He
struts around like a peacock by the first tee throwing cheap shots at
everyone, but when it really matters, at the heat of battle, he shuts
his trap and sticks his head up his arse and plays jug
handles."
2001
Champion and Chad's playing partner that year, Lurch Hayden agreed
with Bonser's sentiments. " I did not hear a peep out of him the
whole round, other than compliments like nice shot, good putt. He
certainly didn't put me off my game. In fact his compliments helped
build my confidence and was a key to my success."
Certainly
Todd's reputation seems to be in tatters following these accusations
and the evidence seems to support them. Todd recorded his second best
performance at the 2001 tournament and his best result in 1998 also
had him playing in the group containing the champion. If anything the
so called verbal viper is nothing more than a hoarse hoax.
But Chad's
flaccidness in sledging is not the only issue that rankles with his
fellow board members. He is still yet to attend a Champions Dinner
since its inception. A fact that has not gone unnoticed by other tour
players.
"Chad
who?" replied Uncle Dougie, when asked to comment on the
controversy.
Uncle
Dougie, one of the new breed of players gouging the Palm Beach greens,
is still yet to meet Chad despite having played in the past two
Masters. "Never seen him at the Champions Dinner, so when would I
be able to meet him?"
When
approached to comment about the seriousness of the accusations made by
his peers, Chad succinctly replied " They can go and get
f-----d!"
This year
Chad qualifies for Life Membership, having played at ten consecutive
tournaments, and sources close to the board have said they will veto
the election unless he attends this years Champions Dinner.
We asked
Mongrel Masters Chairman Noni Scanlon how Chad could restore his
tainted reputation?
"Well
he has a pretty huge task on his hands. But I suppose he could start
with getting those fanciful aspirations of winning the tournament out
of his head and do the job that he has been assigned, of harassing the
hell out of his fellow group members and escalating their
scores. He could then follow that up by showing some respect to his
fellow Tour members by attending the Champions Dinner."
It will
interesting to see whether this very public board room spat can bring
about a change in Chad's behaviour at this years Mongrel Masters. For
some this will be watched as keenly as Cambo's title pursuit.
